Fabuloso is a multi-purpose cleaner that is used for general house cleaning purposes while Oxiclean is a Versatile Stain Remover (mostly for fabric). People sometimes use Fabuloso in their laundry (although that’s not its intended purpose), while on the other hand, they want to remove stains from home surfaces using the power of Oxiclean. Can You Mix Fabuloso and Oxiclean?
Generally, commercial household products should not be mixed since the combination could result in toxic fumes.
There is no visible dangerous reaction that occurs when you mix Fabuloso and OxiClean but to be on the extremely safe side use one product first (possibly Oxiclean), rinse it off completely, and then use the other product.
Both Fabuloso and Oxiclean can be used to clean hard surfaces found in bathrooms and kitchens. Fabuloso cannot be used on porous surfaces and fabrics. Oxiclean can be used to remove stains on a wider range of items such as laundry, rugs, and carpets.
As Oxiclean can also be used to remove stains from Upholstery, rugs, and carpets, never use Fabuloso in such cases as that can ruin the fabric and even leave color behind.
How do Fabuloso Ingredients React with the Oxiclean?
The ingredients of Fabuloso and Oxiclean are listed below, and the reaction is explained.
Fabuloso (Lavender) Ingredients
Sodium Dodecylbenzene sulfonate, Sodium C12-15 Pareth Sulfate, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, and C9-11 Pareth-8 are the surfactants present in Fabuloso. These reduce the surface tension of a liquid and help in the release of dirt and the suspension of dirt in water so that it can be rinsed away.
The rest of the ingredients are water, Citric Acid, Colorants, Fragrance, and Glutaral
None of these ingredients contain bleach or ammonia.
Oxiclean Versatile Stain Remover Ingredients
Sodium percarbonate – A combination of hydrogen peroxide and washing soda
Sodium carbonate – Washing soda (A cleaner and a water softener. It is very effective at removing stains)
Polymer – Provides a longer shelf life to the product
Sodium carbonate peroxide – Oxygen bleach
C12-15 alcohols ethoxylated – Surfactant
Sodium chloride
C.I. Pigment Blue 15:1
Possible Reactions of Ingredients:
Generally, surfactants can be combined with oxygen bleaches, hydrogen peroxide, washing soda, or other surfactants.
1- Sodium percarbonate and citric acid: Mixing these cancels out the cleaning power of the other. It only gives bubbles of Carbon Dioxide
2- Sodium carbonate and citric acid: The combination of these 2 produces carbon dioxide.
These are not very dangerous reactions that can cause potential harm. However, sometimes products may release toxic fumes that can irritate the nose, throat, and eyes. Nausea and breathing difficulties can also occur. Allergies and asthma can be triggered.
For hard surfaces in the kitchen and bathroom, add the powder to some water. Apply the paste to the stain or surface directly or using a sponge. Let it remain for up to half an hour and scrub gently. Rinse the area with clean water.
How to Use Oxiclean with Fabuloso?
If you have stubborn stains (caused by coffee, wine, food, juices, and even pet messes) on hard, non-porous surfaces, you can use Oxiclean first to eliminate such stains, before using Fabuloso to clean the area.
Gather the following cleaning items:
- Gloves
- Sponge
- Clean cloths
- Oxiclean
- Fabuloso and water solution in a spray bottle (⅛ cup Fabuloso) or bucket (¼ cup Fabuloso in a gallon)
- Mop
- Old toothbrush
To Clean the Bathroom:
Step 1- For stubborn stains in the bathtub and sink, rinse the area first with water.
Step 2- Sprinkle some Oxiclean powder on a sponge and gently scrub the stains.
Step 3- Rinse the area with water to remove any residue.
Step 4- Clean your entire bathroom as normal using Fabuloso. Spray the Fabuloso solution on the sink, bathtub, and shower areas and scrub gently.
Step 5- Use the mop and bucket containing Fabuloso solution to clean the floors.
To Clean Tile Grout:
Step 1- Fill the scoop halfway with Oxiclean and mix it with water in a bowl to make a paste.
Step 2- Use an old toothbrush and apply it on tile grout and gently scrub away the built-up dirt.
Step 3- Let it remain for about 30 minutes and then rinse it off with water and a clean cloth.
Step 4- Clean the area as normal using Fabuloso.
Before using Fabuloso, make sure any Oxiclean residue has been rinsed away.
