Say you found a couple of wasps hovering around or even a wasp nest. What can you use to get rid of the wasps? If the only product you have around is Fabuloso, will it be effective enough to kill them? What other home products can you use to kill wasps? Let’s find out below.
Will Fabuloso Kill Wasps?
This multi-purpose cleaner is exactly that – a cleaner. It is not an insecticide or pesticide. However, certain scents repel wasps, including lavender. If you make a spray of water and Fabuloso Lavender and spray it around the areas where wasps frequent, the scent may repel them.
If you happen to spray the solution on a wasp, either the solution will clog up the pores and it will die, or it will come straight for you. Either way, it is not worth the risk of being badly stung. Fabuloso has not yet been proven to kill wasps and other winged creatures.
How To Use Fabuloso to Kill Wasps?
If the wasps are becoming troublesome, try the following:
STEP 1: Pour a capful of either lavender or refreshing lemon Fabuloso into a spray bottle and fill it with water.
STEP 2: Spray the wasp-infested areas.
STEP 3: Repeat a couple of times during the day to repel the wasps from the area.
You can attempt to spray it directly on the wasps but wear some protective gear to avoid getting stung. Do not spray a wasp nest as the Fabuloso solution may not be powerful enough to kill the wasps as they fly out of the nest.
You can try making the solution stronger by adding one more capful of Fabuloso. As you attempt to kill the wasps, make sure there are no children or pets around. Also, make sure you can get back into your house quickly to avoid being stung.
What Household Products Kill Wasps?
There are some non-toxic products that you can use to kill wasps, such as:
1- Liquid dish soap
2- Apple Cider Vinegar
3- Hydrogen peroxide – spray directly on the wasp
4- Hair spray – spray directly on the wasp
5- Bleach
How to make a solution using some of the non-toxic products is explained below.
Homemade Wasp Killer
If you see a couple of wasps around, you can eliminate them using a homemade spray. If you notice quite a few, there may be a nest nearby. For safety reasons, it is better to let a pest control professional take it down. Make the following solutions at home to kill wasps.
1- Water and Soap
This is a commonly used solution to eliminate wasps. Mix about 50ml of dish soap with 500ml of hot water and pour the solution into a spray bottle. You can spray it on the wasp itself as well as the nest. This will clog up the wasp’s pores, making it unable to breathe.
2- Citrus Extract
Mix 3 tablespoons of lemon extract in 1 cup of water and pour this into a spray bottle. Spray this directly on the wasps.
3- Peppermint
Peppermint will kill wasps and repel any surviving wasps from the area.
Mix equal amounts of vinegar and water. Add peppermint essential oil (about ½ teaspoon) and 1 tablespoon of liquid dish soap. Pour this into a spray bottle. Spray the wasp nest at night as wasps are back in their nest at night.
4- Apple Cider Vinegar
In a bowl, mix 2 cups sugar and 2 cups apple cider vinegar. Stir till the sugar dissolves. Add about ½ a cup of liquid dish soap and stir gently. Leave the bowl where the wasps are.
The sweetness of the sugar and apple cider will attract the wasps. The dish soap will prevent the wasps from flying away.
5- Bleach
Mix a little amount of bleach in water and keep it in a spray bottle. Spraying this at wasps will kill them. However, wear protective gear, including goggles and gloves to avoid the solution from coming into contact with you directly.
Wasps will attack if they are disturbed or provoked. When you go for the wasps, always wear protective gear that will cover your whole body. Wear a hat with netting to protect your face and neck. This will keep the wasps from stinging you.
What Products Repel Wasps?
1- Essential Oils: Essential oils such as eucalyptus, clove, and lemongrass can be used to repel wasps. Dilute with water in a spray bottle and spray in the areas where the wasps frequent. Peppermint is also great at repelling wasps.
2- Plants & Herbs: Certain plants, such as rosemary, mint, thyme, lemongrass, and sage can be planted to repel wasps. These are natural and non-toxic, and most are safe for pets as well.
Final Thoughts!
Wasps emerge during spring and are in plenty during summer. Wasps are active during the day. Fabuloso may not be the perfect wasp killer. Thus you should go for other wasp-killing solutions as stated above.
