Ants may not be dangerous and harmful but it doesn’t make them less of a pest. Not only are they irritating to behold but can also damage electrical circuits and disturb the plant roots in your backyard. And they are so small, that they can find their way anywhere in the home.
We know Fabuloso is a great multi-purpose cleaner and can kill a few germs & viruses on different surfaces around the home, but can it kill ants? Can Fabuloso repel ants?
We’ll be answering these questions in detail in this article. We’ll also discuss other safe methods of getting rid of ants in the home.
Can Fabuloso Kill Ants?
Fabuloso is a multi-purpose cleaner that not only cleans surfaces around the home but also kills ants and roaches when it is sprayed directly on them. Fabuloso is non-toxic so it can be safely used around the house, and flying ants aren’t exempted from their rage.
Fabuloso on Ants Inside Home
Summer does not just usher in flower blooms and sunshine, it sometimes brings ants into the home too. But there’s no need to worry because Fabuloso can be used to eliminate them.
Unlike other bug-killing sprays that give off toxic fumes, Fabuloso does not. Even if you inhale this cleaner while you’re spraying ants, you won’t suffer any adverse effects.
Fabuloso is only toxic if you ingest it, and since you’re not going to do that, you’re safe.
There’s rarely a part of the home where Fabuloso can’t be used to kill ants. Whether it’s in your bathroom, living room, kitchen or bedroom, you can kill ants there with Fabuloso.
Usually, a cleaner may be suitable for tiles, but not suitable for hardwood or concrete. Fabuloso is also a good cleaner to kill ants on almost all the surfaces inside the home because it is suitable for different surfaces including sealed wood. This means that ants on hardwood floors, furniture, tiles, steel, etc. can be sprayed with fabuloso.
In Grass
Fabuloso can kill ants in the grass but it will also kill the grass.
It may take a long time if the grass covers a large area of space around your home and the ants are everywhere. This is because you have to spray the Fabuloso solution directly on the ants to kill them. You can’t just spray it in the air and around the grass and hope the ants die.
To kill ants in the grass with Fabuloso, look for their nests or places they are gathered in large numbers in the grass. Then spray directly on them. Don’t just spray every ant you see, wasting the cleaner. Spray them generously and they should die instantly.
In Potted Plants
Fabuloso and other multi-purpose cleaners shouldn’t be sprayed on plants because along with the ants, the plants will die.
For example, Sodium Lauryl/ Laureth Sulfate(SLS), which is one of the ingredients in many household cleaners (including Fabuloso), if sprayed on plants, their shoots start to get brown, their leaves lose water and start shedding, and the plants eventually die of dehydration.
Fabuloso all-purpose cleaner contains Citric acid, which can sometimes be good for plants, especially to balance their soil PH level. But sometimes, it can cause negative reactions in other plants. You don’t know how much citric acid the soil needs and cause more harm than good.
There are however better ways of getting rid of ants in your potted plants without spoiling the soil.
1- Prepare a solution of 2 tablespoons of insecticidal soap to 1 quart of water.
2- Submerge your plant in this solution and leave it for 20 minutes. The ants in the potted plant will float and die. After 20 minutes, remove the plant and drain water from its soil.
3- Then sprinkle some ground cinnamon or cayenne pepper around your plants. This will repel ants and keep them from your plants in the future.
How to Use Fabuloso to Kill Ants?
To kill ants or roaches, you only have to spray Fabuloso on them directly. If f your Fabuloso is not in a spray bottle, then pour some into a spray bottle and spray the ants around your home.
You only need a small amount to kill ants, especially if they are all in a single place. But for roaches, you may have to spray for a few seconds, saturating them with it before they die.
Don’t just stop at killing the ants in your home, regularly clean the hard surfaces in your home to repel ants, and keep them away for a while.
To do this, mix 1/4 cup of Fabuloso cleaner with 1 gallon of warm water. Spray on your kitchen counter and gently scrub with a soft brush. Then rinse with water.
For tiles, use a mop to apply the solution on the floor, cleaning every corner. Then use a damp mop to remove the cleaner and let it dry.
When you do this, the Fabuloso smell will act as an ant repellant for a while, and you won’t have to worry about them.
What Household Cleaners (Other than Fabuloso) Kill Ants?
1- Vinegar
Chances are you already have this in your kitchen and use it as a cleaner. But vinegar doesn’t just clean or kill germs around the home, this household product also kills ants too. They can’t withstand the acidic content of Vinegar.
Mix equal parts of water and vinegar and pour the solution into a spray bottle. Spray the solution directly on the ants and they will die immediately.
You can also use vinegar to repel ants from your home. Spray the solution around the access points in your home. Areas like doors, windows, cracks, etc. should be paid attention to. Spray vinegar solution in these areas and ants will avoid your home.
2- Citric Acid
You can get this from citrus fruits like lemon, orange, lime, etc.
If you are using lime, for example, squeeze its juice into a cup. Then mix 1 part lime juice with 3 parts water to make a solution. Spray this directly on the ants and they will die. You can also spray it around the access points in your home to repel them.
3- Dish Soap
This most easily available household cleaner not only kills ants but also destroys the scent trails they leave behind, so other ants can’t follow the trail to your home.
Mix equal parts dish soap and water. Spray it generously on the ants and wait for a few seconds or a minute. The ants will suffocate and die, and you can then get rid of them. Use this solution to clean around your home and on the floor to destroy scent trails.
What If You Have Ants’ Nests?
Dealing with ants’ nests isn’t different from dealing with the ants in your home. It just means you have more ants to deal with. A nest could contain hundreds to thousands of ants.
You can deal with it by using vinegar. Just open the nest’s mouth a bit and pour white vinegar straight into it. You may need about 1 liter of vinegar to fully saturate the nest and do a good job.
There’s another method of dealing with ant’s nest which is even cheaper. All you need is water.
Boil a large quantity of water and pour it into the nest. If you want it to work faster, add some liquid dish soap to the water. The ants will die within seconds and you won’t have to deal with them for a while.
Final Thoughts!
Fabuloso is not only a good cleaner that cleans surfaces in the home, it kills and repels ants and fleas too. It’s not toxic so it can be safely used to kill ants inside the home. Instead of giving off toxic fumes, this cleaner comes in lovely smelling scents. The smell lingers for a while repelling ants.
It contains ingredients that may not be good for all plants so you should not use it to kill ants in your potted plants. If you accidentally spray Fabuloso on your plants, rinse them thoroughly and they’ll be fine.
