Fabuloso is a handy product to have around. It is an all-purpose cleaner, and it is used on most hard, non-porous surfaces. So, can it be used on windows as well? Will it leave streak marks? What are the alternative eco-friendly options to clean windows? And, what should windows not be cleaned with? This article addresses all these issues.
Can You Use Fabuloso on Windows?
Fabuloso can be used to clean windows and glass doors. Fabuloso is formulated to be used on hard non-porous surfaces, so using Fabuloso on glass will not cause any damage.
Fabuloso is a powerful all-purpose cleanser that efficiently gets rid of dirt. Windows are not cleaned as often as floors and other surfaces, so dust and mineral deposits build up over time. A good cleaner is needed to wash away the grime, without leaving streaks.
How Does Each Fabuloso Ingredient React with Window Glass?
Fabuloso All-Purpose Cleaner (Lavender) has the following ingredients:
Sodium Dodecylbenzene sulfonate – As it is a surtfactant, it produces bubbles while removing grease and dirt
C9-11 Pareth-8 – This is also a surfactant
Sodium C12-15 Pareth Sulfate – This is a surfactant as well
Sodium Laureth Sulfate – Again, a surfactant
Sodium Chloride – controls the thickness of the item
Glutaral – This is a preservative
Citric Acid – pH regulator
Colorants – gives color to the item
Sodium Bicarbonate (in Fabuloso Citrus & Fruits with Baking Soda)
Citric acid is good to use on glass surfaces. It removes scum, streaks, hard water stains, and mold.
Sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate is also found in Windex, a popular window cleaner.
Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) is abrasive and can scratch the glass surface.
Glass is quite resistant to corrosion. Only a few chemicals are bad for glass, such as hydrofluoric acid and concentrated phosphoric acid.
Neither of these is found in Fabuloso. The impact of the ingredients mentioned above is not entirely known, but when used properly, Fabuloso will not damage the glass surfaces.
How To Use Fabuloso on Windows?
Fabuloso is a concentrate and needs to be diluted correctly to effectively clean the surfaces.
You will need:
1- Bucket
2- Gloves
3- Hose
4- Microfibre cloth
5- Old towels to cover the floor when you clean from the inside
6- Soft brush
7- Sponges
Warning: Do not clean windows on a bright, sunny day. This causes streaks as the water evaporates quickly. If this is not possible, wash and clean a small area at a time.
STEP 1: Softly brush away the dirt first. Rinse the window with a hose to remove dust and loosen up the dirt.
STEP 2: Mix ¼ cup Fabuloso with one-gallon water. Dip the sponge in the solution and start cleaning the windows.
STEP 3: Rinse off the surface with clean water and a clean sponge.
STEP 4: Remove the excess water using the squeegee.
STEP 5: Wipe the window with a dry microfiber cloth.
STEP 6: Clean and wipe the frames and handles as well.
You can Clean Windows With These!
If you do not have Fabuloso or a glass cleaner, there are a few alternatives, such as:
1- Mix two gallons of water with a couple of teaspoons of dishwashing liquid for an effective window cleaning solution.
2- Combine two cups of water with ¼ cup of white vinegar in a spray bottle. Vinegar breaks down dirt and mineral deposits.
3- Fill a spray bottle with 1 cup of water, ¼ cup of rubbing alcohol, and 3 tablespoons of white vinegar.
4- Commercial cleaners such as Windex.
A squeegee is a must-have for window cleaning. The rubber blade wipes away moisture, leaving the window clean and streak-free. A microfiber cloth is another essential item. Microfiber cloths trap moisture and do not leave any streaks.
These items will leave your windows sparkly and streak-free.
It Is a Bad Idea to Clean Windows with These!
There are a few things you should avoid when cleaning windows:
1- Abrasive scouring pads – These will damage the glass.
2- Wrong type of cloth – Old rags and dishcloths will leave lint on the surface.
3- Soap-based detergents – These will leave behind a residue.
4- Acid-based cleaners – Avoid these as they can ruin the pain around the window and damage the glazing.
5- Bleach – Avoid bleach as it can damage the glass if not used correctly. It will also spoil the sealant around the window.
General Fabuloso Warnings
While Fabuloso can be used to clean glass and other hard surfaces, some guidelines should be followed while using it.
1- Do not mix Fabuloso with other cleaners, including Windex. The combination will produce toxic gases.
2- Never mix Fabuloso with bleach to disinfect windows. It will create dangerous chlorine gas.
3- Do not heat Fabuloso as it can trigger respiratory issues.
4- Prolonged exposure to Fabuloso can irritate the skin, so wear gloves. The scent may also irritate the nose and throat.
5- Use only as directed as per instructions. Using it for surfaces not indicated and for other purposes can ruin those items.
6- Do not use Fabuloso on glass plates or glass bowls. Fabuloso is not designed to clean items that handle food.
